Nice shots. What ISO and shutter speed do you use?

Hey, I was shooting at: ISO 400, F5, and 1/250sec shutter. We have 4 Alien Bees B1600 lights that we are triggering with CyberSyncs triggers/receivers.

Without the lights I had to shoot ISO 800, F2.8 to get 1/250 shutter.

AAAAHHH!!! Such cute little children playing a terrible, violent, barbaric sport like hockey! Think of their teeth! Think of all of the awful injuries they must go through.

Well, at least they had A PHENOMENAL PHOTOGRAPHER!! Whoa, Seth...you are producing some rockin' awesome images. Keep up the awesome work, and when you get a Pulitzer, remember that you can still crash at my house when/if you ever become a starving homeless artist.

((preface:: A few weeks ago I was privileged to attend IPS PWP1 & 2 in Colorado, and have seen/heard your name from different IPS students, etc,.. Bethany Wissmann & Leah Cross were students with you back in April, and I have communicated with them...))

Anyhow, these are great pictures!! Really threw me for a BIG loop though because last week I was trying to photograph my brother ice skating, at a simple rink. I had my speedlight and all, but all I ended up with were dark, blurry, noisy, fuzzy, BAD pictures. In the name of anything with the name of IPS, it was quite freakish. I couldn't figure my camera out or even know what settings I should have it on. I changed my shutter speed, ISO, aperture, etc,..but to no avail.

Anyhow...maybe I should take your "secret methods" or magic settings into consideration next time (if ever) I make an attempt at such a thing. But, maybe your 4 lights made a huge difference. What was the effect of the pictures without the lights? Would you mind posting one so we could see the difference? Also the lens I have doesn't have that low (or wide open) of an aperture, so that could have been on of my problems.

Needless to say, you are really doing well with your photography and the learning that you have had. Maybe I'll catch on to everything one day...

In Christ,
